For any young person to become a successful sportsperson takes immense dedication, significant financial backing and a huge support team.
This is true for all sports, but particularly for UK snowsport athletes - with few mountains and little snow, our aspiring champions need to travel extensively, and often base themselves outside the UK for some of the year to maximise their training opportunities.

Find out more about some of the athletes who have received funding from the Foundation.
The Foundation will consider providing funding for athletes and programmes across all snowsport disciplines, including Alpine, Cross Country, Ski and Snowboard Cross, Aerials, Moguls, Ski Jumping, Snowboarding, Freestyle Skiing, Telemarking and Biathlon
We have also supported a number of projects including the Youth Olympic Games, Project Lillehammer and grassroots initiatives.
Youth Olympic Games – GBS sent a team to YOG 2020 with support of BSSNF. The athletes experiences and learning at this event were vast in the wonderful setting of Lausanne, home of the IOC – this was the third edition of Winter Youth Olympics. The athletes stayed in Olympic Village with 81 different nations and experienced not only their sport (in a multi-sport setting) but many educational elements that included learning about media, anti-doping, Snowsport environment challenges, the Olympic values/spirit and experiencing the superb home from home set up by Team GB. There were many more positive elements that went with this event which will be all helpful in their progression as Snowsports athletes in years to come.
"The British Ski and Snowboard National Foundation works in close partnership with GB Snowsport and the Home Nations to support our young talented athletes on their performance pathway and grow winter sports at the grassroots level. The year began with the Youth Olympic Games where many of the Athletes we supported had the opportunity to join over 1000 competitors at Lausanne 2020. In addition to the focused support to many of the GB Athletes we also met a large proportion of the operational costs for the 28 strong Team that descended on Switzerland for 2 Weeks."
Mark Ritchie, Head of Talent GB Snowsport
Project Lillehammer was also supported by BSSNF; At the elite level we supported Project Lillehammer to create an opportunity for 7 Athletes to full time train and accelerate their journey in Nordic Skiing. Though this centralised programme it has allowed Athletes to have increased coaching hours, access to a world class venue and exposure to national and international competition. These Athletes have demonstrated significant improvements in performance and we were extremely excited to see James Slimon qualifying and attending the Youth Olympic Games at the start of the year that BSSNF also supported.
We now look forward to seeing all these Athletes compete at the Junior World Championships. It’s been great to be able to train with some of the Junior skiers from Lillehammer Ski Club and encouraging to have been able to keep up with them on their hard sessions! We have been really lucky this year with British Ski and Snowboard National Foundation supporting our program by helping us fund our house out here in Lillehammer. The house is close to the Olympic tracks which is really convenient, and we are just a few hundred meters from tracks which pass right by the house to get to the stadium. CAMERON Cruickshank.
